3.6.4 Convert Links (Tools)

New in Photosmith for iPad version 3 is the notion of storing photos right in Photosmith’s own catalog storage space, or sandbox.  You may import photos into Photosmith’s sandbox from Photos.app / Camera Roll as Links or Copies.  The differences between importing as Link vs. Copy are discussed in Section 3.3.1.1.

In Photosmith, tap on Dashboard, then look under the Tools group in the left-hand column.  Tapping the Convert Links option will launch the Convert Links popup window.

In the Convert Links popup window, there are two primary functions which may be selected from the top of the window:

  • Links > Copies - Convert photo(s) previously imported as a Linked from Photos.app to a Copy.  Linked photo imports are discussed in more detail in Section 3.3.1.1.
  • Copies > Links - Convert photo(s) previously imported as Copied from Photos.app to a Link. Copied photo imports are discussed in more detail in Section 3.3.1.1.
The left-hand column lists of all existing Photosmith Collections and User Collections; this can be very useful to help narrow down and find specific photos that you want to convert to Copy or Link:

To select and deselect one or more imported photos, tap the Smart Groups section header to select all photos within the Smart Group, or tap photo thumbnails individually.

The Smart Groups slider at the bottom of the Convert Links popup window can change the way your Smart Groups are organized:

The Space Required section will tell you how much additional disk space will be required (represented as a positive number if Converting Links > Copies) or how much disk space will be saved (represented as a negative number, indicated a disk savings, if Converting Copies > Links, as in the example below):

You may also use the All, Invert and None buttons to quickly modify your current photo selection:

The current number selected photos is displayed in the top right-hand corner of the Convert Links popup window.  To Convert the currently selected photos, tap the Convert button:
