3.3.3 Collections

In simplest of terms, a Collection is just an explicit grouping of photos. It may contain zero photos or thousands; Collections are a way for you to help organize your photo catalog into smaller subsets. Many people use Collections as a way to group photos based on similar themes or events.

We've created a quick video introduction to organizing your photos with Collections in Photosmith:

Now, we will discuss Collections in more detail:

While in Catalog Mode in Grid and Loupe Views, you are presented a number of Collections in the left-hand column.  Photosmith has two types of Collections: Photosmith Collections and User Collections:

  • Photosmith Collections: Collections which are automatically populated and maintained by Photosmith. Think of it as a System-level Smart Collection.  Photosmith Collections include All Photos, Recent Imports, Selected Photos, and Rejected Photos.
  • User Collections: Collections the user creates and maintains.
If your Mac or PC running Lightroom and Photosmith on your iPad are on the same internal network, creation of new User Collections should propagate immediately.  If Photosmith and Lightroom are not on the same network, User Collections will be propagated during the next sync.

Smart Collections

As of Photosmith 3, Smart Collections may not be created in the Photosmith’s Publish Service in Lightroom. Yes, it bothers us too; we hope to have this issue resolved in a future release.

In the meantime, please visit Section 3.3.3.2 for a Smart Collection workaround.
